Knitting Update

Long skinny scarf that still needs to be finished, but I think it turned out rather well.

Detail of the long skinny scarf...sorry it is so bright!

Here is the front and back of 'Don't be a Football Widow'. I think it is turning out rather nice. The color is a little darker here since I had to stand so far away to take the picture. The Marokko is very nice to work with as well.

Here is the front, which I just finished tonight.

The Suss Shawl is done!

The Suss Shawl is done! It actually turned out quite cute, but I don't think I will ever user her yarns again--at least the cotton. I still am not sure if I am going to keep it or give it as a gift. I guess we'll see!

Closer View of Suss Shawl

My Awesome Secret Pal

So, I came home from work today and checked the front porch to see if drapes I had ordered had come yet....Well, no drapes, but there was a package from my secret pal!!!

I rushed inside to open it and Yoda was right behind me. Inside was the Knit One Felt Too book, a ball of Berroc Plume FX, and 5 balls of Reynolds Lopi!! I was so excited! I looked through the book trying to decide which project to do once my other WIPs are done. I then got busy right away on the Suss Shawl so that I can get to the new yarn...

Why do we have to work?

So, I am back at work today after a funeral and having carpet put in the house....and I am looking at knitting patterns, reading knitting forums, and blogs. I think I am addicted. I think work is boring and can't seem to focus! I guess I'll have to focus as soon as I post this.

In knitting news, I finished the back to the Yarn Girl's sweater in Meunch Marokko poppy. I had to knit very loosely to get the guage, and I think I am still going to have to block this thing to get it to fit correctly. Oh, well...it'll be cute when complete though.

I started a long skinny scarf on size 9s that I must now finish before I can do the front of the sweater. I am using Lion Brand's Landscapes in Rose Garden. I saw the colors and loved them, so I thought I would give it shot.

Some people are very prejudice against Lion Brand, but I honestly don't have anything against it. Besides the Marokko and the Lush I have, I mostly use Lion Brand just because I have easy access....I am impatient and hate to wait for yarn. I haven't had the problems eveyone refers to, but then maybe I haven't used it in projects with a lot of wear....I'm sure I'll move into the more respected yarns soon.

Adventures in Kool Aid

So I had picked up this skein of Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool on sale while I was in Peoria. I ear marked it to try Kool-Aid Dying and then felting it. Well, I went ahead and dyed the wool and I don't think it turned out half bad. I think the green could be brighter, but I do like the color that it came out.

I think that I am going to do the Marsupial Tote from Stitch 'n Bitch. I guess we'll see how that comes out.

In other knitting news, I have my gift for my KR Secret Pal and just need to send it off. I'll post pictures of it after the reveal because I think it looks pretty neat....but no more details--don't want to give anything away!

Knitter's Review Secret Pals

Someone on the Knitter's Review Forums suggested a Secret Pals Program. I jumped at this bandwagon...What could be better--meeting other knitters and getting cool gifts in the mail?

I got my secret pal today and can't wait to go shopping. I have a couple of ideas: point protectors, yarn cutter...but we'll see!

Suss Knit Kits

So, When I was traveling for business in Peoria, IL, I was uninterested in the project I brought with me. So, I hit the local Michael's store and the B&N across the street. At the B&N, they had just reduced those Suss Knit Kits. I was curious, sue me!
So, I bought a multistrand shawl kit in Aqua (actually, blue). The knitting went pretty fast and I finished more than half of it in the four days I was in Peoria. I am still working on finishing the project, but here are my thoughts so far:

    • The bamboo needles are crap. The tip of one of the needles is rough and catches on the yarn.
    • All the yarn was based in cotton. I think for the price of the kit (orig $69.99 down to $49.99) was a little high for all cotton yarn....
    • It came with about 5 different yarns. All the main stands were cotton, but they were combined with eyelash, viscose, mohair, etc. I liked that I was able to sample the other types of yarns without having to knit a whole lot in each one.
    • There are no finishing instructions....This thing NEEDS to be croched around the ourside. Knit entirely in Stockenette stitch, it curls....I will be adding that when I am done....
    • Speaking of instructions, they were VERY basic. The kit said it was an intermediate kit, but a beginner could follow the directions and be fine.
    • The shawl is becoming very cute, and I may use the pattern again, but I will definately use different yarn
    • One last thing, everyone who saw the kit in it's carry all bag thought I was carrying around a Barbie doll!!

I will post pictures when I am done...
